It is a beginner’s course that is designed to raise awareness in learners of the different mental health conditions, while teaching them valuable information about the subject matter.

What study is needed at home?
Learners are required to attend the lesson time through the use of Zoom. This course will be delivered online only.
Learners are required to complete the NCFE workbook for the mental health awareness level 1 qualification. Learners will also need to dedicate time outside of the classroom to self-study and completing additional pieces of research to complete all the learning outcomes required to be answered for this qualification.

Understanding Children and Young People’s Mental Health

The purpose of this course is to increase the learner’s knowledge and awareness of children and young people’s mental health. By completing the qualification, learners will develop knowledge of:
• Children and young people’s mental health in context
• Mental health problems commonly associated with children and young people
• The impact of mental ill-health on children and young people
• Support available to maintain mental wellbeing in children and young people.

It is a knowledge based qualification, and work/industry placement experience is not required. The focus of the qualification is on the study of mental health within the context of the early years, and aims to provide a key core of knowledge.
