The purpose of this course is to increase the learner’s knowledge and awareness of Health and Social Care. There are 3 compulsary units which you will study during the course. These are:
• Equality, diversity and rights in health and social care
• Human growth and development
• Safeguarding and protection in health and social care
Learners are not required to attend placement in a Real Work Environment. However, 30 hours or more of work placement is recommended in order to support their learning.

At least 3 hours per week over the duration of the course will be required on this course.  Learners will be expected to underpin their own learning with reading, research and compilation of assignments.

Previous Learning

No previous learning of this subject is necessary but already having or working towards Level 2 English is necessary to satisfy the requirements and standard of the written work involved.

Main Learning Objectives

Develop an understanding of basic medical prefixes (word beginnings).

Gain an understanding of medical terms relating to different specialities.

Develop an understanding of basic medical root words.

Identify the meaning of common abbreviations concerning drugs and prescriptions.

Develop an understanding of basic medical suffixes (word endings).

Acquire a basic understanding of medical terms relating to body systems, e.g. heart & chest, etc.

Understand legal and ethical mentoring requirements.

Gain a brief understanding of the Confidentiality NHS Code of Practice.

Progression to further learning with FACE

FACE does not offer upward progression.  However, horizontal progression onto further vocational learning leading to an appropriate and relevant occupational qualification at Level 2 or above is possible.

This qualification aims to develop learners’ understanding of autism and the principles of supporting individuals with autism - covering the person-centred approach and influence of positive communication methods, how to support positive behaviour, and how individuals with autism can be supported to live healthy and fulfilled lives. It is useful for learners who provide direct support and those working in sectors such as health; social care; leisure; entertainment; education and training; nursing.
